At the Center for Advanced Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry, Dr. Nelson Y. Howard and his team use the latest in dental technology to provide comfortable and anxiety-free dental care. Lasers can be used to perform a variety of dental procedures—from periodontal therapy to soft tissue surgeries. We invite you to learn more about our dental laser services!
Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR)
LBR is a non-invasive, painless dental procedure. With the diode laser, our dental team is able to kill almost 100% of the bacteria located in the gum pockets around our patient’s teeth. We typically use LBR as an adjunct for our patients with heart condition such as mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmurs, as well as those patients who have heart disease or have had strokes. This protects these patients from the possibility of becoming infected by the harmful bacteria disrupted during a number of dental procedures.
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT)
LAPT is used during deep dental cleanings, such as scaling, root planing, and curettage procedures, to remove the dead soft tissue, diseased, infected, and inflamed tissue within the deep gum pocket. This is a non-surgical procedure which does not involve the use of a scalpel, and does not require stitches. The removal of the dead tissue with the dental laser sterilizes the gum pocket and kills the harmful bacteria throughout the procedure. The dental laser also promotes instant healing of the soft tissue, while routinely reducing the size of the gum pockets and increasing the bone height around our patient’s teeth, which typically results in a healthier mouth. In addition to replacing scaling and root planning procedures, the dental laser can often take the place of surgical periodontal gum procedures.
Gum Re-Shaping
At both our San Marcos and Rancho Bernardo offices, cosmetic dentist Dr. Nelson Y. Howard can correct “gummy” smiles with our laser technology. When you have an excess of gum tissue, your teeth can appear too short or disproportionate in size. With laser gum re-shaping, we can lengthen the look of your teeth and future crowns or veneers, which changes your gummy smile to a beautiful, more natural-looking smile and appearance.
Frenectomy Removal
The removal and repositioning of the muscle attachment to the jaw that sometimes causes the space between a patient’s front teeth and can contribute to gum recession around the teeth. Our use of the diode laser for this painless procedure provides immediate resolution to the problem thereby enhancing the health, appearance, and stability of both the gingival tissues and restorative dentistry procedures.
